Seattle-born William Bolcom has achieved distinction both as a composer and pianist. Bolcom has written music in all genres and his musical style has developed from the rather academic style of his first works to a musical language that embraces different idioms. He has also been very much involved in the revival of ragtime and the two works here - both dating from the late 1980s - show those influences, along with a colourful orchestral palette and tremendous rhythmic drive and energy to create works that have immediate impact and appeal.
